Test and Demo Files

These files can be used to test your printer and monitor for colour accuracy. Ideally, your monitor and printer should be profiled using software designed for the purpose. If you can't afford the software these test files provide a good visual check.

Very Important Note!

Any device must be calibrated before evaluating it for colour accuracy!

GATF Test Files

Industry standard files for checking colour accuracy and gray balance on CMYK devices. Use the GATF files with the SWOP colour profile. Make sure you have calibrated your device before printing any of these test files.

European Color Initiative

The Altona Test Suite is used for ISO testing. The Altona Suite includes a visual test file and instructions on how to evaluate the test images. New Fiery rips now default to ISo Coated.

EFI Fiery Test Files

These files are provided by EFI for testing Fiery rips. The Pantone files can be used to print a Pantone swatch book. You can compare this with the swatch book from Pantone to judge colour accuracy. Some Pantone colours are outside of the CMYK colour gamut and cannot be accurately printed on CMYK devices. The RGB files include a Word and a PowerPoint file with the hexagonal colour picker from these applications. You can print these files to see how the on-screen colours will look when they are printed. Make sure you have calibrated your device before printing these test files.

Monitor Testing

These files can be used as a visual test for your monitor or projector. You can view the files on your monitor to evaluate colour accuracy. The JPEG file is sRGB and can be opened in your browser for viewing. The TIFF files can be used in applications for evaluating your monitor.

Printer Testing

These files can be used to test your printer for hardware problems. You can test for drum, corona wire, fuser and image registration problems.

The Drum Test prints a page for each toner colour. Check for page defects in the individual colours to determine quality issues for a particular drum. If defects occur only in on one page then replace that drum. If defects occur in all colours the machine needs to be serviced.

Use the Image Registration Test to check front to back image alignment.

Resolution Test

People always want to know how much resolution is required when scanning or printing to get high quality images. Print this file on your printer to determine the optimum resolution. It contains images from 50 ppi (pixels per inch) to 600 ppi. These PDF files are uncompressed so they are very large downloads. Start with the 50-300 ppi file. Most people find a resolution in that range that will give them optimal results.
